Youfit Health Clubs - Non refund from gym closure
my girlfriend and I had signed up for a membership at a single location and not the general membership that would have afforded us use of other facilities. We did this because it was a mile and a half away.
One day about two months after we both paid our annual dues we got an email saying that our gym was closing in 4 days. Then began the crazy and frustrating job of trying to get our dues back in even a pro-rated fashion. There was no person to contact because the actual Jim had closed. We were directed to use an email address that they supplied but it only gave a canned reply that acknowledged that we had sent the email but the specifics of my complaint and request or not entertained.
The company put this poor manager at another location in charge of directing the complaints and after almost 3 months of me checking back with him, he said corporation had declined my request for a pro-rated refund and this was based on the idea that I was supposed to use another facility that was in fact 3 times further away.
The unprofessional way that this corporation handle this is unbelievable and the fact that they will not refund my prorated fees is totally unethical and probably illegal. Be forewarned that apparently the corporation is having difficulties and if an individual location closes down for any reason and you are at that location alone, you may very well not be afforded any kind of a refund
