I joined YouFit health club on Hurstbourne Lane in Louisville, Kentucky on April 20, 2015. I put the membership on my Visa card to be billed each month at $19.99.

I am under a doctor's care for high blood pressure, cholesterol and elevated blood sugar. I did purchase what I understood to be four sessions with a trainer as I had not exercised for sometime and I am 67 years old. I was having pain in my legs and did not want to do any further damage. I wrote a check to the YouFit Health Club for $280 which I understood was for prepaid sessions.

When balancing my checkbook I see that on May 30, $180.00 was automatically deducted from my checking account. I called the club and the manager, Blair, told me that I did indeed sign a contract for automatic renewal each month for this to be taken from my account. She said she would email me the copy which she didn't do. I went to the club and they printed it for me.

I was never given a copy of this at the time - this is the only copy I have of this. Had I been presented with this the first day I would have not agreed to this. Then I find out that you have to be a member for three months before this contract can be cancelled. In a roughly 30 day period I have been charged $460 - April 22 thru May 22.

I am highly upset with having to pay this amount plus three additional months at $180 per month. I will seek legal representation on this and will post the results. My advice to anyone thinking of joining this health club to be very careful. They advertise $10 per month and no contract.

I got $180.00 plus $19.99 totaling $199.99 per month with at least a three month contract and most likely attorney fees on top!

Unclear but it sounds like they are getting paid twice?

The big thing with any corporate gym especially is be aware of the contracts and "paperwork" they want you to sign. Also be aware many desk attendants and sales reps are one step above a fast wood worker. They have been told things like "just make sure you get the customer to sign this document" which is exactly many wind up doing not knowing what they are having people sign nor do they understand the implications.

Give one last shot to correct the situation then take it to outside agencies such as the better business bureau.

They stay in business because people like you don't take 20 min to read the contract you sign. Ask for a hard copy of everything you sign anywhere you go.

That's why they make laws stating you have 3 business days to read and get a full refund if you don't agree with anything. No attorney will touch that case because your signatures are on the agreement.
